The Ragdoll Breed
The Ragdoll is admired for its striking blue eyes, silky coat, and exceptionally gentle, affectionate nature.
Ann Baker created the Ragdoll breed in the 1960s primarily using a white, long-haired Angora-type cat named Josephine and a black, Persian-looking male named Blackie. Josephine is considered the foundation cat, with the breed developing from her litters following a reported accidental mating with Blackie, and later with a seal mitted male known as Daddy Warbucks.
Through careful and selective breeding, the Ragdoll became known for its calm temperament and unique tendency to go limp and relaxed when held—giving rise to its name.
Ragdolls are deeply affectionate and people-oriented cats. They often follow their owners from room to room, seeking companionship and connection, and are well known for their gentle, laid-back personalities.
